grommunio: Enterprise Email and Collaboration, On Your Terms

grommunio is a modern open-source email and collaboration platform that gives your organisation enterprise-grade business email, shared calendars, contacts, chat, video meetings, and file sharing in a single system. We deploy and manage grommunio for businesses across Dubai and the UAE that want a complete communication platform they fully control, on-premises or in private cloud, without the per-user cloud fees and vendor lock-in of hosted email.

grommunio enterprise email and collaboration platform

Built in Europe and developed in the open, grommunio is designed for organisations that take data sovereignty seriously. Your email, calendars, and files stay on infrastructure you own, within UAE borders, which matters for government, healthcare, finance, legal, and any business with data residency obligations.

Scales With You

Migration from Microsoft Exchange to grommunio

Microsoft Exchange Migration

For organisations running Microsoft Exchange, grommunio is the most seamless migration path available, because it is built as a native drop-in replacement for Exchange. This is where grommunio stands apart from every other open-source alternative.

Microsoft Exchange Server 2016 and 2019 reached end of support on 14 October 2025, and the Extended Security Update programme ended in April 2026. If you are still running Exchange 2019 on-premises, your mail server now receives no security patches and no bug fixes, leaving every new vulnerability open. Microsoft’s only on-premises path forward is Exchange Server Subscription Edition with its ongoing licensing, or a move to Microsoft 365 where your data lives in their cloud. For many organisations in the UAE, grommunio is the better answer.

A True Drop-In Replacement for Exchange

grommunio implements the full Microsoft Exchange protocol stack, so your existing Outlook clients, mobile devices, and mail applications connect to it exactly as they connect to Exchange. No plugins, no connectors, no add-ins. For your users, nothing changes. For you, the economics and control change entirely.

MAPI over HTTP

Outlook for Windows connects natively, exactly as it does to Exchange. Nothing to install on each machine.

Exchange Web Services (EWS)

Outlook for Mac, eM Client, and Apple Mail work out of the box.

Exchange ActiveSync (EAS)

Native push mail, calendar, and contacts on iOS, Android, and Outlook mobile. grommunio even puts shared mailboxes on mobile over ActiveSync, which Microsoft 365 itself cannot do.

Standard Protocols

IMAP, POP3, SMTP, CalDAV, and CardDAV for any other client.

Zero-Touch Provisioning

Outlook Autodiscover and Apple mobileconfig mean clients configure themselves from just an email address.

Why Migrate From Exchange to grommunio

Keep your existing devices and workflows when moving from Exchange to grommunio

Predictable Licensing

Straightforward licensing with optional enterprise support, rather than per-user cloud fees that climb every time you add staff. You can run grommunio in production and scale it without renegotiating your costs at every tier.

Keep Your Data in the UAE

Mail, calendars, and files stay on-premises or in your private cloud, within national borders.

Keep Your Investment

Your Outlook licences, mobile devices, and workflows all carry over. A migration to grommunio is a server change, not an organisation-wide retraining exercise.

Escape End-of-Life Risk

Move off unsupported Exchange 2019 onto a platform that is actively developed, patched, and supported.

Our grommunio Migration Service

We handle the move from Exchange to grommunio end to end, as a structured process designed to be invisible to your users.

  1. Assessment

We review your current Exchange environment, mailbox sizes, public folders, shared mailboxes, and client mix, then size the grommunio deployment and plan the cutover.

  2. Deployment

grommunio installed on your infrastructure or private cloud, with Active Directory or LDAP integration, correct server sizing, and high availability where needed.

  3. Migration

Mailboxes, calendars, contacts, and public folders migrated from Exchange, piloted with a small group first, then rolled out in phased batches using native migration tooling.

  4. Cutover and Support

Autodiscover setup so most clients reconfigure themselves, hands-on support through the transition, and ongoing management with Nakivo backup after go-live.

grommunio or Zimbra?

We deploy both open-source collaboration platforms and recommend the right one for your environment. If native Outlook compatibility over MAPI matters to your organisation, grommunio is usually the better fit because it speaks Exchange protocols directly. If you are moving away from Outlook entirely and want a mature webmail-first platform, Zimbra may suit you better. We assess your setup and advise honestly.

grommunio or Zimbra: choosing the right open-source collaboration platform

Whether you are replacing an end-of-life Exchange server, leaving Microsoft 365, or deploying business email for the first time, we can help you do it on grommunio, on infrastructure you control.
